What are the biggest pricing challenges in Ford’s parts business?

Market volatility is inevitable. I don’t think any organization can dodge it; it’s coming your way and you’ve got to be prepared.

I’m Sachin Vaidya. I’ve been part of Ford Motor Company for more than ten years, and I’m a finance and business strategy manager. I take care of the entire pricing for Ford’s aftermarket parts business.

Especially in the parts business, we face tough aftermarket competition. We deal with tariffs and a lot of unknowns around cost fluctuations. Those are the key challenges, and that’s why the technology we’reusing with Pricefx helps us mitigate those risks in the most efficient way.

How has Pricefx changed Ford’s go-to-market?

Now that we’re more flexible, our go-to-market strategy has become more straightforward. There are a lot of complexities in our processes, so this has really helped us move faster and look at our data across different dimensions.

That lets us spend more time on analytics and then go for the right pricing. We strive for the right pricing, and that’s how Pricefx is helping us.

How is Ford approaching AI?

Every company wants AI. Everyone wants to know the potential and the efficiency it will bring, and at the same time there are a lot of dual mindsets around it.

In our world, we’re bringing AI into the entire value system, not only into Pricefx but across our other streams, including SAP and ServiceNow and our processes. AI is big and it’s coming our way, so we’re going to live with it. Every individual in our company will gain enough knowledge about AI to be ready and to get smarter alongside the system.

What did Ford need from a pricing solution?

Market conditions are changing, and a lot of things are changing at once. We wanted a solution that combines our future needs and our current needs together. That was challenge number one.

Number two was our complex processes. We wanted a system that can handle our complex data sets and processes, which helps us move faster. The third was ease of use, flexibility, and speed. That was missing, and that’s the value we’re looking at with Pricefx.

Why do people and change management matter?

It’s not only about technology; it’s also about people and change management. You bring in a lot of value through people, because they’re the ones who will use the system. Imagine technology without people. People come with you on that journey through change management, and that’s when you get real success.
