You might have heard about Pricefx – a leading, innovative, software company with great people to work with. That’s nice but what really matters to you is flexibility in how/when you work.

At Pricefx, we have a history of providing our employees with the tools they need to be successful, and believe that goes beyond a good salary. Don’t take our word for it – listen to Bara and Donatas give their perspective on what flexibility and working from home means.

In this article, you’ll spend some time getting to know about just some of the ways our employees take advantage of our flexible culture.

A chat with Donatas Kartanovicius

Who can resist the magnetic charm of a fridge when working from home? Donatas, how do you deal with this peculiar distraction?

Trust me, the allure of the fridge is a real thing. My secret to staying focused? I keep my snacks and beverages in a different room, far from where I work. It gives me a pause to question if I’m actually hungry or just delaying tasks. Sometimes, though, the enticing smell of fresh cookies and a warm coffee is simply too potent to ignore…

Many people have discovered their ‘power hour’ working from home. What about you, Donatas?

I’d say my power hour is definitely post-coffee, typically mid-morning. That’s of course, provided I’m not caught up watching the latest trending video or scrolling through social media…

Working remotely can often lead to unexpected adventures. Can you share one such incident where work flexibility let you seize an opportunity?

There was this one time I could join my university buddies on an impromptu train trip to Pardubice. Thanks to the power of remote work, I could explore the incredible Adršpach rock formations. I’m not sure this would’ve been possible if I was tethered to a traditional office schedule.

Can you recall a moment when you made significant progress on a project outside the traditional working hours?

I remember this one night around 11 p.m., when I was hit by a wave of inspiration and couldn’t resist diving into my project. I worked through the night, made great progress, and was grateful for the chance to sleep in the next day.

What’s the most unconventional place where you’ve worked from?

Without a doubt, the most unique workplace for me was in Adršpach, Czech Republic, with an office view that can only be described as epic. The only challenge was not getting too distracted by the breathtaking scenery around me!

Flexibility can lead to unique opportunities. Can you share an instance when you benefited from this?

Absolutely. Flexibility has allowed me to juggle work and studies simultaneously. The ability to plan my work schedule as per my needs has been a game-changer. It might not sound adventurous, but it truly is in its own way.

With flexible work hours, the traditional 9-to-5 seems like a thing of the past. What’s your new ‘peak hour’?

Well, my workday typically starts after my boyfriend leaves for work (there’s something charming about waking up to a ready breakfast). I prefer to get work done early in the morning, between 7 to 9 am. My ‘rush hour’ follows, which involves grocery shopping amidst a crowd of early birds!

Balancing work-life can be challenging with flexible hours. How do you ensure your schedule doesn’t spiral into a 24/7 commitment?

I’ll be honest; I’m still navigating this. As I juggle work and studies, it’s hard to switch off from work mode to study mode. I am more or less online all the time, but I’ve recently started to mute work notifications on my phone which has helped to avoid distractions when I need to focus.

How do you handle the infamous ‘kitchen distraction’?

Interestingly, having the fridge nearby doesn’t distract me; it’s quite the opposite. I find myself spending less time on meals at home compared to the office where lunch breaks with colleagues are longer.

What’s one aspect of traditional work culture you miss when working from home?

It’s definitely the personal interactions with colleagues. However, I appreciate the option to visit Pricefx offices not only in Prague, but also in Hradec Králové and Ostrava, which provides some balance.
